At Kyoto Sumo Club, immerse yourself in the exciting world of sumo and discover history, traditions, and culture through an entertaining live show.

※This is a fun, family-friendly show, not a real training session or tournament

The show begins with a traditional geisha dance, followed by demonstrations of exercises, techniques, and sumo etiquette. Then, watch matches between retired sumo wrestlers.

Guests can also experience sumo firsthand by stepping into the ring and challenging one of our sumo wrestlers.

※Challenger spots are limited; if there are too many applicants, participants will be chosen by lottery

  • Please note that the Sumo Show is different from a serious morning practice tour or a sumo tournament. It is designed as a fun, family-friendly entertainment experience for both adults and children.
  • Please arrive at least 30 minutes before the show starts.
  • The number of challengers for the Sumo Challenge is limited. If there are many applicants, participants will be selected by lottery.
  • Vegetarian/vegan/gluten free menu are available upon request, but must be reserved at least 2 days in advance.
  • If your friends or family booked separately, please add their name or booking number in the comments. Please arrive together if possible so we can try to seat you in the same area
  • Please inform us in advance if your group includes two or more infants under 2 years old.
  • Infants aged 0–1 years can join free of charge for the Sumo Show.
  • Guests using wheelchairs cannot place them inside the show seating area due to limited space around the sumo ring. Please inform us in advance whether the guest is able to stand and walk a short distance, or if they need to remain seated in the wheelchair during the show. If the guest needs to stay in the wheelchair, we will guide them to a designated wheelchair area.
